Course Description This course covers the postharvest process in fruit production from harvest to consumer, focusing on postharvest physiological changes and the corresponding handling techniques. It includes a introduction of different managements for various fruit crops based on their characteristics, such as temperate, subtropical, and tropical fruits. The course also explores current trends in post-harvest handling technologies both domestically and internationally, and discusses potential future directions for the Taiwanese industry.本課程介紹以水果為主之園產品自採收到消費者之間過程,其採後生理上的變化及因應的處理技術原則;並依作物特性(溫帶、亞熱帶及熱帶水果等)深入討論各作物之採後處理原則;介紹國內外採後處理技術之趨勢,並討論未來臺灣產業可前進的方向。

Evaluation
Attendance (10%): Regular attendance is expected. Students request for leave should abide by “National Chung Hsing University Student Leave Request Regulations”.
Assignments (20%): Other than exam weeks and self-directed learning activities, 10 assignments will be announced in classes, students should upload his/her/team- work in ilearning system based on request. [One A4 page in general]
Written presentation (30%) [Self-directed learning activity] Upload to ilearning upon request.
a. Postharvest handling of fruit in daily lives (20%): A teamwork project. Student should select one specific fruit and evaluate the differences in postharvest handling operations (storage, package..etc) among different retailers (wholesales, market, street-stands…etc). The comparison of these differences on pros and cons should be discussed in the report. DUE:
b. Video (10%): A personal report. Please include two parts: Firstly, briefing the content related to the postharvest handling; Secondly, sharing your thoughts after watching the video. [1 A4 page] DUE: [2 additional pts will be added if upload before midterm]
Exam (40%): 20% for Midterm (WK 1 to WK 8) and Finals (Wk 9, WK 11-WK 15), respectively. The exams will be held Online in iLearning during the scheduled week.
