Course Description | This semester, we will focus on enhancing students’ public speaking abilities. This course will equip students with the essential skills needed to excel in two major public speeches: informative and persuasive speeches. Students will learn to organize their thoughts coherently, present arguments clearly, and use persuasive techniques to influence their audience effectively. Through practice and feedback, students will improve their delivery, including voice modulation, body language, and overall presentation skills. By the end of the course, students will have a solid foundation in the essentials of public speaking, empowering them to excel in various communication contexts and enhance their effectiveness as public speakers. | ||||

This two-semester course is designed to enhance students’ abilities in public speaking and debating in English. Through various exercises and activities, students will develop effective communication skills, master debate techniques, and build confidence in informing and persuading their targeted audience. |

20% Attendance and in-class performance (including evaluation of self-directed learning) 30% Persuasive speech 30% Informative speech 20% Peer feedback *2 1. Attendance is mandatory, and all absences must be excused with advance notice and for verifiable reasons. 2. Students’ performance will be determined by their participation and overall effort in class. Since this course focuses on training students to speak in public, students are expected to actively participate and engage in various activities during each class. 3. Students must deliver two individual speeches for informative and persuasive purposes, respectively. The length of these speeches will vary depending on the number of students enrolled. Students can choose their own topics but will not be able to make up any missed speeches. 4. Students must respond to two speeches given by their classmates, both in written and oral form. The evaluation of all speeches will be based on the structure of the speech, the development of the ideas, the smoothness of delivery, and the effectiveness of verbal and nonverbal communication. |
