Course Description This course aims to develop the language skills essential for academic success, with a particular emphasis on reading and writing. Throughout the class, students will engage with a variety of text styles to hone different academic reading strategies, including skimming, scanning for specific details, and recognizing topic sentences and main ideas. Meanwhile, students will learn various genres of basic rhetorical and organization patterns, such as cause-and effect, summaries, opinion essays, and persuasive essays. Class activities include lectures, group discussions, pair practice, and presentations.

The focus will be on training students in academic reading strategies and critical thinking skills, with an emphasis on applying these skills in task-based collaborative activities that complement each reading chapter. By the end of the course, students will be able to understand and present academic arguments and will become proficient in using academic language.
