Course Description This course helps students get to know the structure, principles, and operation of lasers used in medicine.
1. Introduce students to aspects of laser use in medicine, considering basic physics, tissue interactions, diagnostics and therapeutics, therapeutic guidelines, and safety.
2. Provide students with the technical basics of medical laser systems, associated instruments, modes of laser light delivery, and surgery.
3. Introduce students to the applications of lasers to diagnosis and treatment.

On successful studying of this course, students can acquire the following learning outcomes:
1. Applying knowledge of basic science (mathematics, physics, biology) and advanced engineering fundamental knowledge (informatics, medicine, electrical - electronics) to understand the anatomy and physiology of humans, components and structure of laser equipment, interaction mechanism of laser on biological tissue, and the laser devices in medicine.
2. Understanding and applying knowledge of anatomy and physiology, the structure of laser, interaction mechanism of laser on biological tissue, and the laser devices in medicine.
3. Having scientific reasoning skills, literature review, prepare presentations, reports, and teamwork according to components of laser equipment, interaction mechanism of laser on biological tissue and the laser devices in medicine.
4. Using software and simulation tools to simulate the interaction mechanism of laser on biological tissue.
5. Expressing comprehensive awareness in biomedical engineering and in laser technology application in medicine.
