Course Description | This course introduces to the first-year MA students the methodological issues and core methods in linguistic and applied linguistic research. The topics covered in this course include key concepts, discussions of theory and practice, illustrative examples, and engagement with proposal writing, data collection, and analyses. An overview of research design concepts, developing research questions, data collection methods, and statistical analysis methods will be provided. The course also introduces different types of research design used in linguistic and applied linguistic research. Students will learn how to design a research project and present their hypotheses or speculation in a research paper. Students are expected to write a research proposal upon completion of the course. | ||||
