Course Description The course is designed to introduce IBPA freshmen to English communication through structured listening tasks and guided discussions on a wide range of topics. Students will be supported in developing stronger listening comprehension and oral fluency, while also gaining cultural awareness of the English-speaking world. The course emphasizes techniques for strengthening auditory memory and acquiring natural English intonation through shadowing. Homework is expected, including regular neo-shadowing recording assignments. Students will also receive training in identifying lexical chunks in spoken English. Short listening quizzes will be administered at the end of each class to reinforce learning and assess progress.

No textbook will be used. Various Youtube videos will be used for chunk-hunting, neo-shadowing, debates and other in-class activities. The complete list of videos will be announced as the semester starts.

This course aims to develop IBPA freshmen’s listening and speaking skills across a broad range of contexts. Students are expected to devote time each week to homework and independent practice. In addition, the course will introduce selected listening materials from IELTS and TOEFL iBT to familiarize students with standardized academic English.
