Course Type Elective Credits 3 Teacher LU,JAU-HUAI
Department Department of Mechanical Engineering/Graduate Language English Semester 2024-FALL
Course Description Energy becomes a more and more important issue nowadays as the greenhouse gas accumulation in the atmosphere reaches a warning level and the climate change becomes a real threat in our life. Thermodynamics plays an important role when energy issues are analyzed and some abatement measures are evaluated. This class aims on discussions on the basic laws of thermodynamics and elaborates the possible applications in engineering. Exergy analysis will be thoroughly explored and some cycles will be fully analyzed to grasp the main ideas in thermodynamics.

1. To review and reinforce the basic concepts and problem solving skills of engineering thermodynamics. We are engineers. We solve problems.
2. To study the mathematical foundations of classical thermodynamics.
You would find that thermodynamics is quite easy. There is no partial differential equation. All you need to do is to find the properties in tables.
You will find that it is not so easy to understand the mathematics in thermodynamics.
That would be a great challenge for you.
3. To explore some of the advanced topics in engineering thermodynamics those are important in the future carrier of graduate students.
Especially at the present day when the sustainable energy and zero emission of greenhouse gas become a great issue for our future development.
1.The ability to solve engineering problems independently with professional knowledge in mechanical engineering.
2.The ability to think innovatively, to design and conduct researches, as well as to present research outcomes.
5.The ability to lead, to manage and to plan life-long learning.
6.The knowledge of professional ethics and social responsibilities of a mechanical engineer.
