Course Description This course reviews the development of US-China-Taiwan relations since 1949 and discusses issues that continue to shape the relationship among the three countries. The course takes an in-depth look at US-China-Taiwan relations and challenges students to think in terms of middle/small powers and power asymmetry concerning international relations. In addition to a historical overview of the triangular relationship, other topics of interest that will be covered include the Taiwan Relations Act, the role of Japan in US-China-Taiwan relations, and US military arms sale to Taiwan. The purpose of this course is to help students to understand the history and strategic dynamics of US-China-Taiwan relations. Students are challenged to think outside the box. This course prepares students for further studies on US-China-Taiwan relations and related topics.
