Course Type Elective Credits 3 Teacher CHENG, AN-CHI
Department Department of Civil Engineering/Graduate Language English Semester 2026-FALL
Course Description This course provides a comprehensive introduction to tsunami science and engineering, drawing on major tsunami events worldwide. Students will explore the fundamental physics of tsunami generation, propagation, and inundation, together with the geological and historical evidence, field surveys, observations, damage mechanisms, and hazard and risk assessment. It also introduces tsunami forecasting and early warning systems, structural and non-structural mitigation, evacuation planning, and international cooperation. Through global case studies, students will connect tsunami science with engineering practice and develop practical knowledge for tsunami disaster prevention and coastal resilience.
