Course Description This course mainly focuses on the conventions of academic writing. Skills of composing process, critical thinking, and critical reading will be introduced. Emphasis will be on reading and writing activities designed to prepare students for successful transition to college-level writing. Students will be required to complete reading and writing assignments, writing projects (for midterm and final evaluations), in-class activities and peer-review discussions.

In this course, students should achieve proficiency in the following areas:
1.Critical Reading: Identify, analyze, and evaluate the main point(s), key supporting points, and supporting evidence in an assigned academic text.
2.Writing Process: Generate multiple drafts of an academic text by adapting the writing process according to the requirements of a specific assignment.
3.Knowledge of Conventions: Make progress toward following academic writing conventions based on the context, purpose, and level of formality of a college writing assignment.
4.Academic Writing: Organize a cohesive academic essay that develops and supports a thesis with specific, relevant evidence from academic readings.
