(Eng.) Environmental Assessment for Sustainable Decision-Making
Offering Dept Department of Environmental Engineering
Course Type Elective Credits 3 Teacher Remi Nicolas CHAUVY
Department Department of Environmental Engineering/Graduate Language English Semester 2026-SPRING
Course Description The course provides students with a hands-on, practice-oriented introduction to environmental assessment tools and methodologies, including Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Life Cycle Costing (LCC), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), and Material Flow Analysis (MFA). Students will learn and apply the core principles of these frameworks to real-world sustainability challenges.

A central component of the course is a collaborative project with a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME). Students will engage directly with an industrial partner to collect and analyze data, develop strategies, and draft professional reports and presentations that deliver actionable insights for reducing emissions and improving resource and energy efficiency. This experience provides professional exposure, enhances stakeholder communication skills, and emphasizes learning by doing.

By the end of the course, students will have practical experience in environmental assessment, an understanding of how to apply these tools in an industrial context, and the ability to communicate sustainability recommendations effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
