Course Description 1. Concentrate on the short stories of Canadian women writers Margaret Atwood and her shortest novel/epic. vs. a contrast with Alice Munro.
2. Use basic narratological terms to read selected short stories.

Some film adaptations of Munro’s or Atwood’s work are available in the multimedia center or online. Choose some relevant to your final term paper.
Sharpen your literaray critical ability by attending some sessions prepared by NCHU library. Learn the proper way of documentation.
Evaluation
Grades:
1. Classroom performance (discussion and presence). (25%)
2. Oral presentation (with ppt slides). (15%)
3. Final paper (including an abstract before the main text: 10+ pages). (30%)
4. Prepare questions (at least one for each short story) for every meeting (10%).
5. Short response papers (1-2 pp., in sessions) (20%).
6. If you want to convent my final grade to letter grade, the following is the conversion chart American Universities usually adopt: A≒ over 90, A-≒ 86-90, B+≒ 80-85, B= 75-79, B-≒ 70-74, CDF≒ below 70. (for graduate students)
