Course Description The course aims to develop vocabulary, academic, and critical thinking skills. Students experience topics through fascinating readings in a wide variety of genres and formats to become familiar with material they might face in or outside the college classroom. The course emcompasses academic lectulres and thematic interviews of diverse content areas. Language usage and structural analysis are the pivotal concerns of the classroom activities.

The primary goal of this course is to develop the English communicative competence of first-year B-level students (non-English majors) Upon completion of their course, students are expected to acquire: (1)the ability to guess the meaning of unfamiliar words from context; (2)the ability to comprehensive main ideas in everyday conversations, short talks and articles;(3)the ability to understand English spoken in a range of academic, professional and social settings.
