Course Description Microbial genomics is the study of the molecular organization of the genome, their content, and the genes they encode. DNA can be sequenced using different methods. Microbial genome can be sequenced using whole-genome shotgun sequencing in which random genomic DNA fragments are sequenced and then assembled by computer to give the complete genome. Analyzing bacterial genomes can be the foundations in investigating bacterial physiology, their genome structures, molecular evolution, antimicrobial resistance, pathogenesis and more. It will also help in preparing new vaccines and new drugs for the treatment of infections. Both experimental genomics and bioinformatic tools for microbial genomics will be introduced in the course.
