(Eng.) Hydraulics of Sediment Transport
Offering Dept Department of Civil Engineering
Course Type Elective Credits 3 Teacher WURONG SHIH
Department Department of Civil Engineering/Undergraduate Language English Semester 2025-SPRING
Course Description This course is intended to familiarize students with the characteristics of alluvial streams, including hydrodynamic and sediment properties, and to provide students with the existing analytical tools for predicting the results of flow-sediment interactions. With the help of laboratory demonstrations and software applications, students can learn from a variety of theoretical and engineering settings.

This course aims to help students to develop adequate abilities to:
1.Describe the characteristics of flow and sediment in rivers;
2.Identify bed form types and determine state-discharge relations;
3.Determine critical flow conditions for bed-load and suspended-load transport;
4.Calculate the rates of bed-load, suspended-load, and total-load transport;
5.Identify the impact of human activities on streams and evaluate restoration practices.
1.Capability in computation and analysis for civil engineering theory
2.Capability in analysis, evaluation, design, and implementation for civil engineering practices
3.Capability in project management, communication, team work, and problem-solving
4.Acknowledgements in contemporary issues, societal responsibilities, engineering ethics, and continuing learning for civil engineers
5.Professional knowledge in structural engineering, hydraulic engineering, geotechnical engineering, geomatics, construction management, hazard mitigation, and sustainable engineering
