(Eng.) Explosions in the Universe
Offering Dept Department of Physics
Course Type Elective Credits 3 Teacher Hashimoto Tetsuya
Department Department of Physics/Undergraduate Language English Semester 2025-FALL
Course Description [!!! This course will include a short trip to the Lulin Observatory to conduct hands-on observations !!!]
The details of the trip will be announced later. The maximum number of students who can participate in the Lulin trip would be ~12, while more students can be accepted for the weekly lectures. This course aims to understand basic concepts in astronomy and astrophysics, especially focusing on different types of explosions in the Universe. This is a new field in astronomy, called 'time-domain' astronomy because their brightness dramatically changes as time goes by. This course will include wide spectra in this field ranging from traditional works on nova and supernova to cutting edges such as kilonova and fast radio bursts. It would be helpful if students have a physics backgroud, although the physics background is not required to take this course. The course schedule can flexibly change, depending on the lecturer's schedule.
