Course Description The course of system dynamics introduces a set of unifying concepts and techniques for modeling and analysis of systems that involve different engineering areas including mechanical motion, electric circuits, fluid flow and heat transfer. The modeling techniques use an energy-based state space approach and provide linkages to the system representations. This approach is taken to obtain a set of ordinary differential equations for the dynamic or time-varying behavior of the physical systems. Determination of the dynamic response can further offer strategies for improvement of the system performance through modification of the system structure and parameters. The general methodology may extend to non-engineering systems such as economics, biology, ecology, social sciences and medicine.
