Course Description The course covers fundamental topics in Mechanics of Materials, including Stress, Strain, Mechanical properties, Axial rod, twisting shaft, bending beams, and definitions and transformation of Engineering stress and strain. This course includes two-week self learning options which will be arranged one week before the designated midterm and final exam.

This course instructs students to learn concepts and analysis skills related to the basic topics of Strength of Materials. The course contents cover definitions of stress, strain and deformation, and fundamental analysis and design concepts of linear members of simple structures. The course serves as the prerequisite course of the other advanced courses, such as Structural analysis, Reinforced concrete design, Steel structure design, soil mechanics, etc.
