Course Description This course is designed to familiarize students with important topics and goals of Generative Syntax. In this semester, students will acquire the following knowledge, including parts of speech, constituency, trees, rules, x-bar theory, theta theory, functional categories, DP movement, wh-movement, Governing and Binding Theory and Minimalist Program. By the end of this semester, students will learn about major theories and the reasoning of syntax. The course also helps students develop skills required to understand and evaluate syntactic analyses.
