Course Description This is a PBL (Problem Based Learning) course using mobile devices in the class. The aim of this course is to introduce some basic concepts and techniques involved in processing materials, especially metals used in structures of mechanical systems. Topics like atomic bonding, crystal structures, solidification, imperfections, diffusion, mechanical properties, strengthening, failures, phase diagram, and alloys are included, as well as non-metallic materials like polymers, ceramics, and composites. Furthermore, a Self-Directed Learing is attached to the topics of sustainable development by assigning a project related to manufacture a mechanical element.
