NCHU Course Outline
(Eng.) Mechanics of Materials
Offering Dept Department of Materials Science and Engineering
Course Type Required Credits 3 Teacher Heng-Jui Liu
Department Department of Materials Science and Engineering/Undergraduate Language English Semester 2024-FALL
Course Description (中)

(Eng.)
Learning the relation between stress and strain distributed inside solid materials subjected to the tension, compression, torsion, bending, etc. Learning further knowledge of the mechanical properties of materials and to acquire the basic concepts of connection between design objects and selected materials.

(Eng.)
Make students master the basic assumptions and deformation models of mechanics of materials, and familiar with the principles of internal stress-strain diagrams. The final goal of this course is to learn how to estimate the lifetime and the durability of a product or a material system and suggest a selection rule of available materials based on the concept of mechanics from the perspective of material mechanical properties.
