Course Description This course is designed for non-native English speakers—particularly non-English-major freshmen—preparing to study in an English-taught environment. Students are expected to reach an upper-intermediate level and develop both competence and confidence in English listening and reading, especially in academic contexts. The course focuses on building the academic listening and reading comprehension skills required for higher education, helping students meet the linguistic demands of English as a medium of instruction. In addition to textbook content, selected recent news articles are introduced as supplementary materials, enabling students to practice listening and reading skills in authentic, academically relevant contexts. Through engagement with a variety of texts, students will learn academic listening and reading strategies, expand their vocabulary, strengthen their understanding of syntax and text structure, and develop the ability to identify key ideas and critically analyze information.
