Course Description Based on essential reading materials, this course aims to provide students with a comprehensive training of all four skills: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The course encompasses academic lectures and thematic interviews of diverse content areas. Language usage and structural analysis are the pivotal concerns of the classroom activities. The classes entail group discussion to facilitate and motivate students’ learning process. In addition, supplementary reading materials, vocabulary quizzes, and group presentation will also be included to help consolidate students’ English proficiency.

(1) Quizzes: No make-up quizzes will be given. 1-2 quiz scores will be excluded from your final grades, depending on the total number of quizzes given in this semester.
(2) Attendance policy: According to the academic regulations of our school, if you are absent for 12 or more class hours (including 12), you will not be eligible to take the final exam and will receive a zero as your total course score.
(3) Assignment: All assignments should be turned in on time, even when you are absent on the day of announcement. All the details will be posted on iLearning 3.0. Late assignment: 10% deduction per day up to 6 days. Assessments submitted after 7 days are not accepted.
(4) Midterm and final assessment: If you are not able to attend the exams, you must notify the instructor in advance and submit a sick leave request through the school system to be eligible for a make-up exam. Please note that the make-up exam will have different questions from the regular midterm and final exams.
(5) Plagiarism policy: Copying words from others is strictly prohibited in all kinds of class activities, including assignments and exams. Once you are caught plagiarizing, 30% will be deducted from your final grades.

This course aims to reinforce students’ English abilities through a series of exercises, in which students will strengthen their English capacity by means of approaching diverse content areas. Students are expected to develop proficiency in both practical applications of English and structural understanding of English lectures and thematic interviews.
