課程簡述	This course surveys some of the major debates and developments in nineteenth-century British love poetry. It gives students the opportunity to explore the connection between love and poetry, to familiarize themselves with the conventions and forms of love poetry, and to read the love stories and poems of nineteenth-century British authors: John Keats, Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, George Meredith, Michael Field (Katherine Bradley and Edith Cooper) and Thomas Hardy.

Course Objectives
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
(1) Become familiar with some of the major debates and developments in English love poetry
(2) Identity and analyze love poetry of various genres and forms
(3) Demonstrate knowledge of poets from different literary periods
(4) Enhance their reading skills and critical thinking through complex poetic texts.
(5) Develop an understanding of the formal, stylistic, and aesthetic qualities of poetic
texts

學習評量方式

10% One Oral Presentation
30% Participation (based on your speaking frequency and attendance)
10% quizzes (To be held at the beginning of each class)
50% Two Essays (To be submitted by Weeks 9 and 18)

3-minute Presentation: You will have to give an individual 3 minute-speech on a love poem of your
choice. For each week, 2-3 students will take turns presenting.
Project Presentation: You will have to give a presentation on the topic of your final essay in week 17
