課程簡述 Since the early 1990s, initiatives for economic cooperation and regional integration began to take place in the Asia Pacific. In the past three decades, the international community witnessed an array of regional initiatives ranging from micro-level cooperation centered on economic development to more ambitious subregional cooperation focused on economic and financial integration among others. This class will discuss the origin of regional integration in the Asia Pacific and its relationship with international politics, and examine major initiatives in the region such as the RCEP, CPTPP, APEC and BRI. Through the topic of regional integration, the class will look into the regional political economy and its interplay with security and geopolitics.

Students will gain exposure to the integration movement in the Asia Pacific that commenced in the post-Cold War period. After completing the course, students will achieve an understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of politics and international relations in the region.
