Course Description In this course, IBPA freshmen will learn the conventions of style and structure used in academic English essays. Students will engage in extensive reading, including the required textbook and supplementary articles selected for their oral presentations. The course integrates in-class writing activities, guided classroom discussions, and oral presentations to reinforce learning. Students will also be trained to identify and analyze lexical chunks commonly used in formal academic texts. Common writing errors will be addressed through focused explanation and discussion to help students improve accuracy and clarity.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to compose well-organized and fully developed essays in an academic style. They will demonstrate the ability to write clear and effective topic sentences, supported by relevant explanations and concrete examples. Students will also expand their academic vocabulary across a range of subject areas. In addition, they will be encouraged to read and analyze materials beyond the textbook to further develop critical reading and writing skills.
