課程簡述 The cell membrane forms a hydrophobic barrier on the cell surface to maintain a constant concentration of biochemical substances within the cytoplasm. However, when a cell communicates with its environment or exchanges substances, it requires membrane proteins to assist water-soluble small molecules in penetrating this barrier. Consequently, membrane proteins play crucial roles in cellular physiology, nutrient exchange, signal transduction, and the immune system.

Human genome sequencing predicts that 30% of genes are transcribed into membrane proteins. For a long time, membrane proteins have been regarded as vital drug targets by pharmaceutical companies; currently, 50% of commercially available drugs are designed and developed to target membrane proteins. Therefore, understanding the function and structure of membrane proteins is essential for comprehending many fundamental questions in cellular physiology. This course will provide an in-depth exploration of the physiological functions, structural classifications, and biochemical instrumentation used for membrane proteins, as well as their future applications in pharmacology and clinical practice.
