| 課程簡述 | Course Requirements: a. Since the instructor values students’ attendance very much, attendance will be checked every week. Any student who is more than 20 minutes late in joining class will be counted as absent. If a student is absent from class more than 4 times (including 4) throughout the semester, with or without sick notice or any other proof, s/he risks being excluded from and failing the course. If a student must miss a class, please notify the instructor by email in advance, and consult our class website for any missed materials. Bear in mind that the instructor is not on email 24/7, so your message may not receive an immediate response. The instructor does not accept text messages or phone calls, either. b. Students are expected to be fully prepared to participate when class begins—that is, to have read and thought about whatever readings were assigned. c. Students are expected to participate actively in class discussion. d. Visit iLearning regularly for announcements and/or syllabus update. |

| Course Objectives: This EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) course aims at helping students arrive at a deeper and better understanding of graphic novels – book form comics. Throughout the course, the instructor will lead students to read assigned graphic narratives for children and young adults, familiarizing students with the terms and the techniques commonly used in sequential arts. In addition, the instructor will invite students to ponder on the reasons why comix, a form traditionally associated with either childish and insignificant, or underground and rebellious, are now increasingly used as a form to depict life story and traumatic history. |
