| 課程簡述 | This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts and methods of sociolinguistics, exploring how language varies and functions across different social contexts. The students will examine the complex social factors that influence language patterns, variation, and use, and gain an understanding of the profound relationship between language and human social life. | ||||||||

| By the end of this course, students are able to: 1. Identify and explain key sociolinguistic concepts, including language variation, dialects, and registers. 2. Analyze the social factors (e.g., class, gender, ethnicity, age) that influence language use in diverse communities. 3. Apply basic sociolinguistic methods to collect, interpret, and present data on language in society. |

| Assessment includes pop quizzes and problem sets, a midterm exam, and a final exam. The percentage of each category will be as follows. • Midterm Exam 35% • Final Exam 35% • Assignments 20% • Attendance 10% |
