課程簡述	種子是人類所利用的主要糧食，種子也是植物繁殖的主要器官，本課程以糧食利用及繁殖的立場，介紹種子的發育形成過程，種子的形態與構造，種子的化學組成，種子的充實與成熟特性，種子的發芽特徵與貯存物的分解，種子休眠的生理代謝，種子的壽命及如何貯藏，種子品質與活力的評估，最後介紹種子生產、調製、檢查及植物品種權等。透過對種子的基本認識，希望有助於種子、種苗產業的發展。 Seeds are the most important staples in the world and also the major source of cultivation materials. This course is designed on the basis of seed propagation and utilization. The first nine chapters present the seed as a biological system and cover its origin, development, composition, function (and sometimes non-function), performance and ultimate deterioration. The last three chapters present the fundamentals of how seeds are produced, conditioned, evaluated and distributed in our modern agricultural society. Understanding the physiological and biochemical aspects of these unique biological units and determining their quality contributes to the success of seed industry development.
