課程簡述	This course introduces first-year MA students to the core methods of linguistic research and the essentials of academic writing. The first half covers developing research questions, research ethics, research approaches and common methods, along with an introduction to research tools such as Google Scholar, reference managers, and AI-based services. The second half focuses on academic writing, including literature reviews, introductions, methodology, expected results, contributions, and training in APA style. Through midterm and final conference-style presentations, consultations, and peer feedback, students will gradually develop a feasible research proposal. Independent study weeks provide additional exposure by reading review articles and participating in a research study, offering broader insight into how linguistic research is conducted.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

1. Understand key methods, ethics, and processes in linguistic research.

2. Develop academic writing skills to compose core sections of a research proposal (introduction, literature review, methodology, expected results and contributions).

3. Apply APA style and manage academic sources effectively.

4. Present and refine research ideas through midterm and final presentations, consultations, and peer feedback.

5. Build a solid foundation for future thesis research.
