課程簡述	生物統計學是從數據中理解生物行為模式的藝術。我們的數據通常是從更龐大的族群中取樣，我們知道不同的樣本會產生不同的數據；所以當我們試圖從數據中估計族群的某些特徵時，應該意識到不同的數據將會得到不同的估計。本課程首先簡要概述科學研究中的生物統計問題，重點聚焦於特定感興趣的問題。我們將回顧一些概率概念，並進一步介紹隨機變數及其性質。隨後，將介紹一系列探索性資料分析方法，以獲得對變異來源的深入洞察。此外，將建立處理這類問題的一般統計方法，包括建模、統計推論以及得出結論的策略。這門課程涵蓋了統計學在生物學研究中的原理和應用，包括實驗設計、數據分析和解釋結果的能力。學生將學習如何運用統計工具來分析生物數據、評估實驗設計的有效性，並解釋數據的結果以支持生物學領域的研究。 Biostatistics is the art of understanding patterns of biological behavior from data. Our data are usually a sample from a bigger population and we know that a different sample would have contained different data; so when we try to estimate some characteristic of the population from the data, we should recognize that different data would have given different estimates. This course starts with a brief overview of biostatistical issues in scientific investigations in which specific questions are of interest. We review some probability concepts and further introduce random variables and their properties. Then a range of exploratory data analytic methods for gaining insight into the sources of variations will be introduced. A general strategy for the statistical treatment of such problems will be developed, involving aspects of modeling, statistical inference, and conclusions. The course covers the principles and applications of statistics in biological research, encompassing experimental design, data analysis, and the ability to interpret results. Students learn how to utilize statistical tools to analyze biological data, assess the effectiveness of experimental designs, and interpret data outcomes to support research in the field of biology.
