子曰：「人之生也直」〈雍也06 17〉。直道而行，才是人生之常。《論語》與《孟子》記載著孔孟、於世上直道而行之實踐的智慧。此「直道而行之智慧」的核心是「修德講學」 ，子曰：「德之不修，學之不講…是吾憂也。」〈述而07 03〉；而其擴展則及於「為政」。
本課程旨在、呈現此「直道而行之實踐的智慧」，並以「修德講學」為重心、與學者一同講習之。
