土壤是人類賴以生存的基本資源之一，舉凡人類的食、衣、住、行都與土壤有密不可分的關係，本課程開設之目的在於初進入土壤環境科學系就讀，而尚未修讀土壤學的學生，能進一步了解土壤與環境的相關性，並了解系上每位教師的研究領域，並培養學生對土壤與環境愛惜與保育的觀念，使土壤環境資源能夠永續的造福人類。
Soil is the most important resource sustaining the human life. Human food, clothing, shelter, roads are closely related with soil. This course is set for the fresh students of the Department of Environmental Science to understand what have been conducting by each faculty of this department. How important of these studies related to the welfare of human-being and what basic courses are involved in each subjects. Another purpose is to let students to cherish the environmental resources including remaining soil in healthy condition.
