課程簡述	The 2026 iteration of this writing seminar is held in conjunction with the “New Directions in Transnational Asian Studies” series and “Trans-ing Borders: Cultural Performance and Identity Formation in a Fractured World” Workshop. Using the seminar as a platform for thinking about what is scholarship and how to go about doing it, this course aims to help new PhD students familiarize themselves with the conventions in academic writing and research in the English-speaking world. In addition, it examines the ways in which contemporary culture has been produced, focusing in particular cultural products and phenomena emanating from East Asia as well as scholarship devoting to their analyses. Through the reading items and writing exercises, the course will also guide students to reflect on questions relating to dissertation writing, from conceptualizing a topic, presenting a case to styles of argumentation.
