課程簡述 This course provides a comprehensive introduction to core topics in physical chemistry for undergraduate chemistry students. The course emphasizes the thermodynamic and statistical-mechanical foundations of chemical systems, including simple mixtures, phase behavior, and chemical equilibrium. Reaction kinetics, rate laws, and reaction mechanisms are introduced to connect thermodynamic driving forces with time-dependent chemical processes. The course concludes with an introduction to statistical thermodynamics, linking microscopic molecular behavior to macroscopic thermodynamic properties. Throughout the course, calculus is used as an essential mathematical tool to develop both quantitative problem-solving skills and physical intuition.

After completing this course, students should be able to:
1. Apply thermodynamic principles to analyze simple mixtures, phase coexistence, and first-order phase transitions.
2. Use calculus-based methods to perform quantitative thermochemical and equilibrium calculations.
3. Understand and derive the conditions of chemical equilibrium and relate them to free energy changes.
4. Analyze chemical reaction rates, rate laws, and reaction mechanisms using fundamental kinetic concepts.
5. Explain how macroscopic thermodynamic properties emerge from microscopic molecular behavior using basic concepts of statistical thermodynamics.
