| 課程簡述 | Academic English: Listening & Speaking is designed to help freshmen to gain and build their communication skills, especially on listening comprehension and reading comprehension strategies and skills. The course features introduction to listening and reading comprehension strategies and skills. The content includes listening practice, online clip/video viewing, group discussion, and articles reading, etc. Exposed to a wide range of listening, and reading situations, and through in-class discussions and group activities, students can accumulate the amount of vocabulary, enhance their English aural-oral and literacy skills, and cultivate their critical reading knowledge, etc. | ||||||||

| The primary goal of this course is to help non-English majors to improve their English communicative competence. Upon completion of the course, students are expected to acquire: (1) the ability to guess meanings of unfamiliar words from contexts; (2) the ability to understand main ideas in everyday conversations, short talks, and articles; (3)the ability to read and think critically (4)the ability to understand English spoken in a range of academic, professional, and social settings; (5) the ability to briefly express their own ideas, opinions, and to give short explanations in English; and (6) some test-taking strategies of English proficiency tests. |

| 1.Class Attendance 15％(Students get 1 point each time when they are present.) 2.Mid-Term: 30% (Written Test:15%+Oral Test:15%) 3.Pair/Group Discussion & Presentation: In-class Group discussion/Group Presentation:15% 4.Final Exam:(Written Exam)15% 5.Freshman English Post-Test:15% 6.Self-Directed Learning:10%(At Least 4 Pieces of Listening, Speaking, Reading, or Writing Practice) ※Perasonal Oral Test:(15%) A.Read out loud one shart passage from the textbook that the teacher assigns and record your voice. B.Sing an English song and record your singing. C.Have a conversation with your friend and record your conversation. Each person has to record your recital, singing, or conversation. Submit your recording and upload onto iLearning 3.0 before the deadline. |
